Have you ever looked around your home and realized how the collected items (art, furniture, etc.) you’ve chosen tell your story?

That’s the feeling I have behind this new collection- Wild Blooms. Everything I’ve created over the past few years has been leading to this. It’s surreal to look back and see the breadcrumb trail I was unknowingly leaving for myself.

If you’ve been following along, then you know this work is a new direction for me. Keep reading to see how all of this has unfolded!

Little techniques and experiments have led me here, to this new and beautiful work. Wild Blooms feels like everything I’ve been working toward for the past three years, since having children, has finally come to fruition.

This stage of life has completely changed how and why I create.

For so long, my work leaned neutral — earthy tones, texture, and organic layers. I still love that grounded palette, but something shifted after becoming a mom. My world and mind changed, which, in turn, changed my art. It took about two and a half years for my hands and mind to finally work in tandem to create the pieces that have been living fuzzily in my head since having my daughter.

As I write this, my daughter is almost three and my son is almost one. Life with two little ones has a way of slowing you down while expanding you at the same time. I started craving more color and a process that felt sustainable and connected to my life as a stay-at-home mom and artist.

Fitting my studio practice into my life as a mother- not the other way around.

Before I continue, I want to acknowledge that I talk a lot about motherhood shaping my art practice. But just know, you do not need to be a mother to truly appreciate this work. I’m just sharing my perspective!

My process now feels sustainable for this season of life and the limited studio time I have. Most of my painting happens during nap times or early mornings before the kids are up. Sometimes my daughter ventures down to my basement studio, but I’m typically more focused on her when that happens. I do love her energy, though! This new process I’ve created is full of contrast — layers of acrylic paint, earth pigments, oil pastel, soft pastel, sand, coffee grounds, and teabag paper. I’m a mixed-media girly, to say the least. I love the push and pull between bold marks and soft layers of texture — it feels a lot like life itself, that dance between chaos and calm. Come to my house during dinner and you’ll see the chaos!!

Take a look at the detail shots below, and you’ll see what I mean by contrast between bold marks and soft layers.

Florals were a happy accident, but when they appeared, I knew it was meant to be.

I was craving familiar, organic shapes within my work. My process of painting and collaging teabag paper naturally formed floral-like shapes. Once I started to see the flowers, I thought, YESSSS. This is it. This is what I need to make and what the world needs to see. Raw, organic, abstract, grounded floral paintings. Paintings that give you the same sense of warmth and connection as standing in a wildflower field, listening to the sounds of nature, and feeling deeply rooted in yourself and the world around you.

Living in rural Pennsylvania, I’m surrounded by wildflowers — in fields, along the roadside, and in my neighbors’ gardens. Experiencing these simple, everyday moments has become my greatest inspiration. Florals have become a bridge between my inner world and the landscape around me. They are a way to directly connect my art to the beauty you recognize and crave every day.

When you bring a piece from Wild Blooms into your home, you're inviting not just beauty but soulful art that was created from a place of desire and connection. Connection to the beauty of Mother Nature- in floral form. They'll ground your space with warmth and soul. They'll invite you to simply be in the place you've so thoughtfully made your own.

Thank you so much for following along as this work has unfolded. I love sharing the meaning and process behind it all! My email list will have early access to this new work on October 24th at 12 PM ET. If you’d like to collect a piece, join my list below! I would love to hear your thoughts on this new body of work.
